Two colors: black and gold. Specific appearance of the case, own gold alloy and mechanism of own design. Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold is the quintessence of Replica Hublot style.
One of the basic principles that guides Hublot is ingenuity. This ingenuity applies to materials, technology and design. The projects created in the company’s workshops are bold, but also pose a significant challenge for the creators (constantly pushing the boundaries is difficult). We can therefore say that the specialists who develop them are a bit like old-school alchemists who are constantly looking for mysterious formulas.
Recently, the Big Bang model has reached “adulthood”, which entered the market in 2005. Hublot celebrated this unusual anniversary (watch brands usually celebrate anniversaries in five- or ten-year cycles) with a limited series of 200 pieces.
This special edition symbolizes three elements associated with the brand: the recognizable design of the Big Bang model, its own Unico caliber and the patented gold alloy, i.e. Magic Gold. They all make up the Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold model, which, despite its fancy name, looks quite modest for a Hublot watch. This is probably due to the smoky color of Magic Gold, which is combined with classic black (the combination of black and gold is a classic that never disappoints).
In appearance, the Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold closely resembles models powered by the Unico caliber with a stopwatch. The case has a diameter of 44 mm (height 14.5 mm), water resistance up to 100 m and a design typical of the Big Bang series. Most of its elements, including the ring, are made of Magic Gold. As a reminder: Magic Gold is an alloy developed by Hublot in 2011, consisting of, among others: made of ceramics and gold. It has scratch resistance similar to ceramics, and thanks to the admixture of boron carbide, it looks a bit like polished brass (with a characteristic, smoky shade).
In addition to gold, the Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold model also uses other modern materials: black ceramic (the caseback is made of it) and blackened titanium (the middle part of the case, buttons for operating the stopwatch, the crown and screws running through the entire casing and connecting to the different elements together). In turn, the dial and case back are covered with sapphire glass covered with an anti-reflective coating.
The appearance and arrangement of indications on the dial resemble those of other models powered by the Unico caliber. Here, too, the matte black dial is skeletonized and features three central hands (the seconds stopwatch has a counterweight in the shape of the brand’s logo), a clearly marked minute scale on the edges, applied indexes and large Arabic numerals, a date display, and a 60-minute counter. . 3rd and small seconds hand at 9. Most of the details are crafted from sandblasted or satin gold, complemented by matte black accents to match the case.
Below the skeletonized dial you can see some of the 354-part Unico HUB1280 caliber with automatic winding and a stopwatch with a returning hand, created in-house. The stopwatch function is controlled by a column wheel located on the dial side (this is a characteristic feature of the Unico caliber, allowing the owner to observe the operation of the column wheel). The balance operates at a frequency of 28,800 (4 Hz) and provides a 72-hour power reserve. Another technical curiosity is the blackened, skeleton rotor and the blackened bridges and plates – these elements are visible under the transparent cover.
Similarly to other models in this series, the case of the Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold model does not have typical lugs (they are replaced with a special strap attachment). Therefore, it forms a whole with a black rubber strap attached to it, which has a quick-change system (this is also an original idea of the Hublot brand, the so-called One Click). The strap is finished with a signed clasp made of blackened titanium and ceramic. Its color additionally softens the already subdued shade of Magic Gold gold, and emphasizes the more industrial look of the Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold model. The price was set at EUR 40,600 (~PLN 180,000).
