With the Top Time Limited Edition, Replica Breitling presents a modern-retro watch with history. Back in the 1960s, Willy Breitling launched the unconventional chronograph as a sports watch for a “young and active audience”. And in 1965, the “Zorro dial” made a major Hollywood appearance on Sean Connery’s wrist in the James Bond film “Fireball”.
The retro-style watch, limited to 2,000 pieces, is available for 4,950 euros and will be launched on Breitling’s e-commerce channel from the end of March 2020. At a later date, the new Breitling Top Time Limited Edition will be available online through selected specialist retailers and will probably also be available in store upon request.
The Top Time Limited Edition will be the first Breitling model to be equipped with a blockchain-based digital passport.
When the Breitling Top Time was launched in the 1960s, it was a watch with a clear mission. Willy Breitling announced that his brand’s new watches are “particularly tailored to the needs of a young and active audience. We have designed an impressive range of cutting-edge chronographs – most notably the all-new Top Time.” The sports watch appealed to this target group and also appealed to young women who were attracted to the elegant and striking design. Now Breitling is reintroducing the Top Time as a collector’s item with one of the most distinctive dials ever made for a wristwatch.
More than half a century after the introduction of the Top Time, Breitling is now bringing a revised and modernly interpreted model onto the market. Like the original from the 1960s, the new interpretation of the Breitling Top Time makes a bold style statement with its unconventional design. A first look at the dial, long known among collectors as the “Zorro dial,” makes it clear that this is a watch that doesn’t take itself too seriously. However, this playful face does not hide the excellent functionality of this Breitling chronograph.
Georges Kern, CEO of Breitling, said: “Breitling fans have always loved the Top Time dial. When the watch was released more than 50 years ago, it appealed to a younger audience who wanted to enjoy the freedom and zeitgeist of the 1960s, and surprisingly, after all this time, it still stands out. Top Time is an important part of our heritage, but one that has received too little attention in the recent past. We are convinced that it will be well received by women and men who appreciate this mix of history, design and functionality.”
