Since Super-Luminova technology made its debut, the luminescence of a watch has never been the same. Its implementation not only brought safety by forever removing even short-decaying radioactive substances such as tritium, but triggered an unstoppable evolutionary process. For some time now we have been surrounded by watches with completely luminous dials (full lume) but until now no one had gone as far as the Swiss brand Replica IWC Schaffhausen. With the experience accumulated over the years in ceramic processing, the brand has just unveiled Ceralume®, a revolutionary technology that allows the creation of the first completely luminescent ceramic case followed by a rubber strap that is equally luminescent, thus introducing the first Fully bright ceramic.
What is Ceralume?
Ceralume® is a proprietary technology of IWC. This is a patented process that allows you to create a homogeneous mixture of ceramic powders and Super-LumiNova pigments, a high-tech material capable of absorbing and releasing light in total safety.
According to tests carried out by IWC, once charged by natural or artificial light, cases made of Ceralume are capable of emitting a brilliant bluish light for over 24 consecutive hours.
The First Concept Ceralume Watch
At the moment this technology is not yet on sale, but IWC has recently announced that it has created a concept watch inspired by the design of the Pilot’s Watch collection, in particular the Chronograph 41 model. In addition to the Ceralume case, this watch boasts a white dial luminescent and a rubber strap that is also luminous.
The dial is created by spraying a Super-LumiNova solution onto a brass base, before applying the print. The rubber strap, on the other hand, is made through an injection process that incorporates luminescent pigments directly into the material.
Conclusions
The arrival of sapphire for watch crystals, a transparent, scratch-resistant material that is infinitely more robust than hesalite, gave rise to an incredible development. Today it is possible to build a watch completely in sapphire, from aesthetics to movement.
